Jeanette! Thanks for the idea of kicking off this group again. I need it and it's a great "resolution" for the new year. I appreciate you taking the reigns to remind us each day. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
LOL! Great way to remind ME! LOL I can't believe that it is already the time for another New Year! Well, tomorrow, I plan to slack a little but Monday morning I am going to start with my living room. I have done a lot over the last year. We have gotten rid of more stuff than I would like to say, but we still have too much! But, the first place I want to tackle this new year is my school room, which is IN my living room now. What do you guys want to work on this New Year? Have you guys heard about the 40 bags in 40 days project? I was thinking that maybe we could incorporate something like that here? I think it would be easy for me to do a bag a day for 40 days. But maybe that would be too much for all of us? Maybe do it over a longer period of time? Anyway, let me know! Who is interested in "Spring Cleaning' with us? And would you like to do the 40 bags in ___ days??? 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
I have never heard of 40 bags in 40 days -- do you have a link? I just have lots of piles of stuff around I want to clean first and organize, then I just want to "really" clean -- such as attack the kitchen sink one day and then the oven another day and dust another day. I have some things I need to sell on ebay or something too . . Here's what we did today (so far). I got a whim. Some time ago (maybe two months!) I had spilled a drink into my nightstand and we pulled everything from it and set it on the nearby treasure chest. We never cleaned all the things from within the drawer and put them back away! So that is what we just did. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Here is a link for the 40 bags. http://simplycatholic.net/old-pages/...bag-challenge/ It has been on several different blogs. I heard about it on Little Lucy Lu. I think it's a wondeful idea. You don't have to throw away the stuff. It can be donated, given away, trashed, sold...whatever you can do to get it out of your house! It's very simple. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Hummie, I like using craigslist for selling. That way I don't have to ship things. Also, for giving away stuff, I sometimes use freecycle. You can find a local on near you by going to yahoo groups and searching. They are all over the country. Yay! For getting some cleaning/organizing done! I have to break things down into little jobs or I get overwhelmed. So, even though I say I want to start with my school area in the living room. It may be that stack of books that the kids got for Christmas that I don't know where to put that I start with. The there's the bookshelves and two drawer units. All needs to have things decluttered out of there and gotten rid of. I think I will try to get started with the 40 bags thing this coming week. If anyone else thinks they may be interested in doing the 40 bags and can't start this week, I could hold off a week. Anyway, I am excited with the prospect of decluttering/cleaning/paring down. I hope others will join! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Oh, I like this idea. I used Fly Lady to inspire my cleaning once upon a time. I still visit to get going sometimes. She says "you can do anything for 15 minutes" and that gets me going because I have permission to only clean for 15 minutes, though I usually keep on going once I start. I am going to check out the 40 bags tomorrow (off to sleep right now). Great idea 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Kim, I've used Fly Lady in the past. I still shine my sink! LOL But I had a hard time sticking with it. So, anyone do anything cleaning-wise today? I just did some laundry, dishes and minor tidying. I am exhausted right now. I was kept up until all hours with some neighbors who were partying hard until well after midnight. Their big end, was pulling out guns and shooting off more rounds that I could even begin to count. So, I did nothing very useful today! Tomorrow is a new day! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Yep, I kept my daughter company while she caught up the dishes. My back is hurting too much to stand very long right now. She is a blessing to have around. The man is coming tomorrow, we think, to repair the ceilings after a year of leaking like a sieve. The roof is just being completed so it is safe for them to fix the ceilings. All this after the city holding up the roof repairs, while we lived with buckets and plastic for months on end because this is an historic building. Now we are trying to make some order and sense out of our apartment so they can get to everything. Can't wait to put everything back where it goes and decorate again. At least the living room was in pretty good order for Christmas, so now working on the bed room. We put the bed back where it goes. Still have plastic, but it will go after painting is done. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Oh, so sorry that you've had to wait so long to have those repairs! I don't want to talk about a leaky roof though! We end of with a few hundred dollars of leaky roof repairs every year about feb/mar. I am planning on getting something done on the school area tomorrow. But I have to be in the big town in the morning. So we shall see how much I do. I am going to take pictures at least. That way I/we can see progress! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
oh, that 40 bags thing would be too much for me! lol Neat idea though. I had hubby clean the tub well today (using him while I work! -- hey as long as it gets done!) We'll be taking down the rest of Christmas today because we couldn't get that done yesterday with all the hospital stuff. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Didn't clean but did get some grocery shopping done (my least favorite job). No ceilings painted today so still waiting for that to get done, then a real "spring" cleaning. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
I thought I posted yesterday. Must not have hit submit. I do that a lot. Anyway, I got some work done on our school area. Have two garbage bags with stuff towards my 40 bags! Yay! I will be posting them n free cycle today. I want to do some more work n the school area. Also, I want to get my eating bar cleaned off. This area is one of m biggest clutter areas. Well, not MY clutter. Everyone else this they can just dump stuff there. And I have been policing this area for the last month, but since Christmas it's gotten a little cluttered again. So I want to fix that today! What are ou doing today? 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Hummie, I definitely believe I using hubbies to their fullest abilities! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Oh, my car is worse than anything. I really need to tackle it but it's only 9 degrees out today. Brrrr!! No cleaning yet today. Just got home from errands after work. Tired and grumpy. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
And my purse needs cleaning. Think that's about my speed tonight. I like to use those zipper pouches to organize then it's easy to find what I need instead of digging around a black hole, lol. Love the see through mesh ones and there are so many pretty ones. I have gotten them at book stores, the dollar store, and drug stores. It's always fun to find a new one, especially for a great price. Love the idea of cleaning with a friend. What a great way to accomplish something and have a good time! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
I agree, my car needs a good cleaning --it has a smell...it's organized... don't know where the smell is coming from -- probably just needs a good vacuuming and cleaning with cleaner on seats and whatnot. My purse too....I agree....something I need to tackle. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Today I am going to finish the eating bar. It's mostly cleaned off. I moved my laptop there though, so it could have a place to live. I've just been lugging it all over the house. That's how my last one got broken, so I've decided to find this one a place that it can be. I've cleaned up the kitchen again this morning and swept the floor. Going to go mop in a bit. Also, folded two loads of laundry. Probably will have 2 or 3 more to do today. I really need to get the kids to clean the bathroom, then I can get back to my school area. I will go get my camera and see what photos I have so far. I agree, my car and purse are probably the most neglected things around here! Oh, and my desk! My desk isn't nearly as bad as it has been but it's my catch all, because it's an armoire and I can close it up and hide it if need be! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
I wonder if this will work? I uploaded several photos of my cleaning, before and in progress photos. I will post more later today for the after photos of my eating bar. http://www.flickr.com/photos/crunchymama/ You should be able to see my most recent photos first! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Good job, Jeanette! I still haven't done much but did get some stuff out of the car. And my daughter worked in the kitchen today. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
You should be able to use the bb code and post the photos here too... Good job! I am going to commit to doing something this weekend -- not sure what yet -- ...or think of some honey-do's 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Hummie, I just didn't want to overload everyone with too many photos! LOL I got our kitchen table decluttered again. It still had a little bit of Christmas stuff on it, but that's all gone now. The school room got a little done to it. The whole house got a quick once over. That's about it. For today. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Ugh! My daughter (daughter #1) borrowed the car while I was at work. Now its full of coffee cups again. I survived a week at work and have promised my daughter (lives at home, daughter #3). Wow, a car just hit our building. Seems everyone is okay. Too much excitement. Off to bed now. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Oh, promised I'd help clean over the weekend. Guess I have to now, lol. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Wow! My cleaning is going to go into overdrive realy soon. I can just throw the 40 bag thing out the window, because I'm probably going to do 40 bags in a week! So, regular cleaning is kind of off the plate for me, because we are MOVING! I am so terrified! I cannot believe we are finally doing it. I have 2 1/2 months to get stuff paired down and we are going up and house hunting. Then we will be moved before the end of the summer, God willing! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
A car ran into your building? That's crazy! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Yep. Someone on a cell phone was in an accident in the intersection then hit the building. It was wierd. She was still on her cell when the police were knocking on her window telling her to open it. Then she started the car. She must have been shaken up and confused. Moving is always a hectic time but you get caught up with all the things that have accumulated. I hate moving but it is exciting at the same time. Good luck!! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
No cleaning yet this weekend ... I guess I can't do it all. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
I have been cleaning or purging might be the better word for it. It's been a rough weekend. I will post later about it. And get a couple of pics to share. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Oh, I keep forgetting to post! Things sure have changed since I decided to do this early spring cleaning. We have gotten rid of three patio sets, a whole lot of books, and countless other things. So, I suppose I've thrown the 40 bag things out the window, cuz I think I have surpassed it by far! Going to get my freezer emptied later today and list it on freecycle or maybe craigslist. I am GOING to take pictures today! I mean it! LOL I haven't taken a picture with my DSLR in over a week I think! I feel like I don't want take photos because the place is a mess with the packing and getting rid of that is going on. I will have to take a photo of my deck, so you all can see my packing area! It's crazy with bubble wrap and boxes everywhere! 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
Wow! You go girl! Hubby and I were reviewing some blog posts about using um .... I forget now .... baking and peroxide for one and amonia for another ... thinking about trying those out and blogging about them. 0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes, 0 Credits
