Installing Fonts in Windows 7
Oh, are we addicted to fonts as digital scrapbookers! Windows 7 offers some new features for installing them.

so it is temporary because you see it in your temporary font folder and can delete it.... It does not do "load" like we use to be able to do with Font thing???

It's temporary because it is a "shortcut" ... you can actually make a shortcut to any font manually yourself too. I think I taught this years ago in the font lesson.
Just right click on the font file and choose "send to" and "desktop (as shortcut)." Then move the shortcut to the font folder. Then it is easy to open the font folder and see the icon with the arrow to know which ones are shortcuts and just delete them.
As you may know from the initial font lesson in Course 1, some fonts are required in Windows and you do not want to accidentally delete one of those. So this is a great way to see which ones are ones you installed so you can easily delete them.~Hummie

Hummie - I have a question about this font business. I am trying to keep all of my photographs and LO, artwork etc on one portable drive, because I live in more than one place, that way I can keep my work with me. I have loaded all my new fonts onto the portable drive and use Windows 7 for all my computers, can I use the windows 7 font installer (shortcut) from my portable drive? I have tried to figure this out after watching your tut, but have to say I am a little lost when it comes to the fonts. I have also tried a font software but it is not working for me. Probably me!!!!Call me Sheila

I followed your video and brought up the fonts, but it doesn't look for the ones on the portable drive, somehow I need those to show up on the windows folder I opened. I will keep playing, I am dying to use my fonts but don't want to permanently install them - cause Hummie said it wasn't a good idea.

What doesn't "look for them?" This video doesn't share anything "looking for them" ...~Hummie

Following your directions and opened the fonts, the ones from my portable drive didn't appear in the search list that was created, however, I did persevere and found a manual filter where I located all fonts on both external drives and included them in one font search. Not sure if that makes sense, I'm not very technical. But I have figured something out that works for me, now I just have to check on the other computers to see if it works there as well. Thanks for the help.Call me Sheila

You are still not making sense to me. You said "I opened the fonts".... do you mean you clicked on them to open them up? If so, did you click on them from your EHD or did you copy the one you wanted to temporarily install to your desktop and open it?
I do not know what you mean by "search list" ... I never search for anything in this video.~Hummie

Hummie - I have figured it out but wanted to show you the "search" I am speaking of at 1.31 on the video you search from the windows button, this is the "search" I am speaking of. As I said, i have found a way to gather the fonts into this windows area from my external drive and it it working for me. Thanks for getting back to me. And thank you for bringing the windows 7 option to our attention.Call me Sheila
