Hi Everyone! I am new here! Looking forward to learning a lot.
Hi Everyone. I am new and just getting started in the digital scrapbooking. I am currently using a trail of Photoshop CS6.
I am interested in purchasing and learning Photoshop Elements.
I have a question. I have a few grey scale templates that were designed/created in Photoshop CS5. I have not used Photoshop Elements before. Can .PSD files/templates be opened and edited/colored in Photoshop Elements? These .PSD files have layers.
Thanks!

Welcome!! You have come to the right place to ask your questions and to learn!
Wow... for a beginner to start with a trial of cs6 can be overwhelming! They also have a free 30 day trial to PSE10 (the latest version) available. Yes, you can absolutely open PSD files in PSE.
There are some free tutorials here on the site to get you started. You can find that guide here. Then there are also loads of lessons available if you subscribe to the site for $5.50 a month. You'd have access to the whole site once you subscribe. But that link above will definitely get you started.
Glad to have you here!!

Welcome!
When you say that the templates are greyscale, what do you mean by that?
I the color profile set to greyscale or are the layers just in greyscale?
With .psd templates, they can be use in any version of Photoshop and even in other programs.
What we do with them is to group them. (control G in pse)
You would put an image above, say the layer for the photo, and then group it to that layer. Your photo would take on the shape of the layer.
Lesson 6L on that page Dawn linked has a free .pdf and a free video tutorial to help yo learn how to use these templates.~Hummie

Hi Hummie,
A friend created a design with layers and made it a template with layers in Photoshop CS6. What I meant by greyscale is that the template she created is colored in different shades of grey so anyone would be able to color the template the colors they choose for the different layers of the design. Hope this makes sense. I do not know all the correct terminology.
I downloaded the trial of PSE 10 just the other day as the trial of Photoshop CS6 was overwhelming. I am able to open the template design in PSE 10. I can select the layers of this design in PSE 10 but I'm not sure how to change the grey color to a different color or if I even can in PSE 10 since this is a Photoshop CS6 .PSD file.
Thank you for letting me know about Lesson 6L.
Thank you for responding Hummie!
