June Inner Reflections Challenge
As I am currently going through many changes and countless challenges in my personal life, I find myself reflecting inward more and more often. Who have I become? What brought me to where I am in my life today? Am I everything I hoped I would be? What's in store for my future? Where can I take my life next? As I started asking myself these questions, I decided to read inspirational books and, as I fully expected, I began wanting to scrap pages about concepts, thoughts, personality traits, strengths and weaknesses I saw within myself. Things I wanted to change and things I wanted to nurture; things I wanted to explore and things I wanted to purge.
I challenge you to do something similar. Each month, I'm going to bring you a word or short phrase. I want you to reflect on it and scrap a page about what it means to you. The page does not have to be about you, just what you want to represent to us about your thoughts on my topic of choice.
I originally thought I'd do this as a journaling challenge, and I encourage all of you to journal your little hearts out! But sometimes, as in my personal example for this month, a quote or just a few sentences will get your message across. Do what feels right for you.
June Inner Reflections Topic: COURAGE
What does "courage" mean to you? Maybe it's a cancer survivor you know or someone who overcame a personal fear; maybe it's the memory of you leaving your parents' home to head out on your own or your child standing up to bullies.
For me, courage is something that does not come easily these days and it is something I have to search for every morning and several times throughout my day. You will hear me quote from Paulo Coelho's book "Warrior of the Light" quite often, and I adapted a passage from this book to use on my page for this month:
Even though I know I'll be leaving everything familiar, everything safe and certain in my life; and even though I am scared of what the future holds for me, frightened of making mistakes and making my circumstances worse than they are, courage is stepping through that door and into the great unknown despite my fear and uncertainty.
Please post your creations in our gallery, but don't forget to post them in this thread as well or we won't know to send you the participation gift!
This month's participation gift is 2 quick pages made with my upcoming collection: Keeping Track.
I can't wait to see your thoughts on COURAGE!!Last edited by Kiki Cole; 05-31-2012 at 10:13 PM.

Can't wait to see your layouts again Bernie! Yours are so awesome.
If I get the book, it will be a digital copy.
We still have our Scrapping and Healing book club here and Dawn and I were talking about how we need to get back to that one.~Hummie

Thank you, Kiki. This was a meaningful challenge for me
I was hoping I could get this done as there was a time in my life that I had to muster up all the courage I could and I was surprised laying in the quiet one night in the home I had moved to when I realized that I had not lost myself. It was good to scrap this poem by Mary Oliver, one of my absolute favorites. She writes often in terms of nature which I find comforting and familiar. The poem is called "The Journey". You can read the poem in the credits in the gallery.

Nancy...I love your LO and I hope it was therapeutic for you to scrap!
I'm so glad you are all enjoying this challenge. I really love to scrap pieces of my soul!! I think it's important to leave those little bits of me for future generations....and it really helps me gain insight into myself and perspective to my life.
You are all scrapping such beautiful quotes, poems and journaling. I'm afraid my truly insightful and therapeutic pages would be a bit shocking (LOL...they're in the "fantasy/realistic style like my example above, but they're sometimes dark/morbid/gothic!) but I'm going to continue to use Warrior of the Light for inspiration.
Bernie...glad you're getting into the book! It is a bit difficult to understand sometimes. I also read The Pilgrimage by Paulo Coelho and plan to get The Alchemist.
I'm busy trying to scrap a quote for next month's challenge and will probably post it Friday night so you'll all have it for the weekend!
